Osun state government has warned motorists, especially commercial bus drivers popularly known as ‘Korope’ against arbitrary parking by the road sides.
The government charged security agencies to apprehend and impound any vehicle that contravenes the order and directive.
This is just as the government frowned at the use of earpiece or earphones by drivers while driving, saying it causes distraction which eventually leads to road accidents.
The government spoke through the Executive Secretary, Osun State Office of Transportation, Engr. Bilal Adiat while fielding questions on a popular radio programme tagged: ‘Aabo Loju Popo’.
Adiat said arbitrary parking of vehicles at the roadsides is a serious offence which, he said, the state government will no longer overlook.
He said vehicles are supposed to be parked completely off the road so as not to impede other road users, thereby causing obstruction to the free flow of traffic within the town.
According to him, commercial minibuses popularly known as ‘Korope’ are more culpable of the offence especially when they want to stop and pick passengers.
While noting that officials of the Office of Transportation will henceforth enforce compliance, Engr. Adiat also warned drivers against the use of earpiece while driving, saying it has caused a number of accidents on the road.
He urged motorists to maintain the normal speed limit and avoid over speeding which, he said has taken a lot of lives unexpectedly.
