A non- governmental organization, Women in Prison Support Initiative (WIPSI), has taken the bull by the horns in carrying out sensitization programme within Akure and has paid a visit to the female Nigeria correctional service in Ondo town on the need for those in incarceration to be aware of their rights under law.

The event was held at the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Secretariat, Akure on August 23, 2023, where stakeholders in the temple of justice were allowed to shed lights on issues that border on women and children being cheated in the society due to lack of legal aid.
According to the founder of the organization, Dr.Mrs Yemisi Sosanya, said the set objectives of the organization can be described as prevention, correction and rehabilitation which focuses primarily on children and secondary on women in incarceration and how to ensure that by way of prevention, women and children are kept out of prison.

However, Sosanya opined that inmates who found themselves either as victims of circumstances or real offenders will find a way to get help through WIPSI.
The sensitisation programme was aimed at helping victims find access to justice or real offenders to see where things went wrong and make necessary corrections.
She said the rehabilitation process is to see how to ensure offenders or just mere victims have opportunities to get back to the society through a seamless exercise.
The legal icon, however said through relentless efforts, she has surpassed difficulties to get this far via the effort of stakeholders who volunteered to offer their law firms in collaboration to render services to complement the organization’s efforts.

Mrs Sosanya, explained further that the real idea was a way of giving back to the society and allow those who are vulnerable to get justice while a visit was paid to Nigeria correctional facility in Ondo town where gift items were given to the inmates.
During the sensitisation programme, members of organization paid a courtesy visit to the chief justice of Ondo State, justice A.O Adesola, who commended the group for the laudable initiative and promised to partner the group to foster access to justice in order for the organization to achieve its set goals by reducing those unlawfully incarcerated.
