Owena Press Staff Union passes vote of confidence on chairman

The Leadership of Owena Press Staff Union (OPSU) has rejected the planned picketing of Owena Press Limited by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025.

In a statement jointly signed by the OPSU Chairman, Kole Akinjeji, and the Secretary, Agboola Fesobi, the union described the proposed action as unfair and one-sided, asserting that the NUJ failed to adequately consult with the management of Owena Press Ltd, publishers of The Hope titles.

The OPSU noted that the ongoing reorganisation within the company, including the redeployment of Mr. Akindele Adubuola to edit a new title introduced by the management, is an internal decision carried out in accordance with the company’s conditions of service.

“We firmly believe that external interference, particularly from unions, is inappropriate and should be rejected,” the statement states.

The union further disclosed that during its meeting on January 17, 2025, the Management Committee unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Kayode Fasua.

According to the OPSU, Mr. Fasua’s leadership has been instrumental in spearheading the reorganisation process aimed at repositioning the company for improved performance and success.

The OPSU commended Mr. Fasua for his efforts and urged staff members to support his leadership and cooperate with the company’s vision of achieving higher standards as a leading media organisation.
