Owena Press to partner SWS to improve Society

Owena Press Limited, publisher of The Hope titles, has expressed its willingness to partner with the StandUp for Women Society (SWS) in an interventional role to improve the society.

The Chairman of the media establishment, Mr. Kayode Fasua, made this known while hosting members of the association, who paid him a courtesy visit in Akure on Wednesday.

Fasua said his media outfit was set to collaborate with SWS on enlightenment initiatives aimed at reshaping young people, who will become responsible citizens, parents, and future leaders, influencing the state and the country at large.

He encouraged women to come together and explore ways to remodel younger generations, as he observed the growing prevalence of corrupt practices and fraudulent cyber activities among youths.

He warned that such behaviours could never foster a better society but would instead lead to worsening conditions.

He emphasised the importance of returning to foundational values by instilling proper moral upbringing within the home.

“It also goes to show that women play a direct role in the moral upbringing of children. However, men may wish to take on extra responsibilities due to the ego factor of being the head of the family.

“It is both biblically and Quranically sanctioned. This is why domestic violence should have no place in society because women are special vessels of honour who should not be maltreated but instead held in high esteem and given a special place in the hearts of their spouses.”

He affirmed that this approach would help children see their mothers as role models, shaping their conduct within the society.

While commending the association for its activities worldwide, Fasua unveiled his organisation’s determination to support such initiatives.

According to Fasua, the media outfit, established in 1989, has stood for truth, service, and justice, earning recognition from many quarters for its contributions to the media industry.

“We publish news online daily, featuring our front page and digital front page.

Soon, we will introduce The Hope TV Online and also bring innovations through seminars, award programmes, and educational events. We look forward to seeking your collaboration,” he revealed.

Earlier in her speech, the State Chairperson of the association, Liberator Alhaja Rafat Momoh, advocated for participatory governance that allows women to be actively involved in decision-making processes to reshape society.

She highlighted the reason  God created a helper at the beginning of the world where Eve was for Adam stating that despite this, women’s roles remain unrecognised due to society’s parochial mindset.

She lamented that women are still largely excluded from governance and decision-making processes, which she attributed to many of the challenges facing society today.

“The Beijing Declaration stipulates that women should have 35% affirmative action, yet this has never been achieved in Nigeria. No one is advocating for issues affecting women in decision-making forums such as the House of Assembly and others. Where are we in all this?” she questioned.

Momoh commended the company for its commitment to social responsibility and for helping to disseminate their activities to the public.

She called on the government at all levels and those in positions of authority to actively involve women in decision-making processes concerning women and children to ensure the proper development of the state and the country at large.
