Owo accident: Police exonerate Gov’s convoy

The Ondo State Police Command yesterday gave a clear picture on the story trending on social media that the convoy of the Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, killed an Okada man simply identified as Jimoh Aladeniyi in Owo Local Government area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, who gave the clarification in a statement signed and dated March 10, 2020 and made available to The Hope Metro, stated that the governor’s convoy was not responsible for the death of the deceased.
He said the police First Information Report (FIR) indicated that at about 8:45pm, the Okada rider rammed into a stationary vehicle parked by the roadside in front of the Government Technical College, Owo which led to his death.
ASP Tee-Leo, who visited the scene of the incident in company with some journalists said the vehicle involved was a Nissan jeep with number plate UK 475 KJA.
He said the family of the deceased immediately removed his corpse and motorcycle against police advice.
He added that the affected vehicle has since been evacuated by the Police from ‘B’ Division, Owo to the station, while investigation continued.
According to him, ‘the state Commissioner of Police, CP Undie Adie also sympathised with the family of the deceased.
The media, he stated, should always exercise patience in reporting any event, saying that the police investigation and findings, had cleared the governor’s convoy of the incident.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased over the death, the PPRO urged the public to disregard misleading information.
