A respected Islamic scholar and cleric, Fadhilat Sheikh Yunus Abdullahi Anola, has been appointed as the new Grand Chief Imam of Owo Kingdom, succeeding the late Alhaji Ahmed Aladesawe.
Sheikh Anola, who until his selection served as the Imam of the Ondo State Government House Mosque in Alagbaka, Akure, was announced by the Muslim community in Owo.
His appointment followed the demise of Aladesawe, who until his death a few weeks ago, was the Chairman, Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, and the Secretary General of the league covering the Southwest, Edo and Delta States.
An Owo Muslim faithful expressed gratitude for the choice of Sheikh Anola, saying, “Alhamdulilah! Alhamdulilah! Alhamdulilah robul alamina. He who the cap fits should wear it. We thank Allah that Owo Muslim Community made the right decision.
“May Allah ease the Imamship for him, and make it beneficial to Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria, Islam and humanity. Aameen thuma aameen.”
In a congratulatory message, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olayide Adelami, described Sheikh Anola’s selection as well-deserved, noting that his life of service reflects humility, truth and steadfast devotion to Allah.
Adelami said, “I received the news of your selection as the Grand Chief Imam of Owo Kingdom with great joy and a deep sense of pride. Your life of service has long reflected humility, truth and steadfast devotion to Almighty Allah. You have been consistent in promoting peace, compassion and understanding among all people, values that resonate deeply with our shared vision for a united and progressive Owo.”
He added that the joyous reception of Anola’s emergence across Owo by both Muslims and Christians underscores his reputation as a unifying figure.
“I have no doubt that, with Allah on your side, you will easily fill the vacuum your predecessor left behind as a bridge builder, fostering harmony, wisdom and inclusiveness within the community,” the deputy governor said.
Adelami further extended his prayers and support ahead of the formal turbaning ceremony, saying, “Congratulations, Baba Imam. Barakallahu feeh.”
