Owo crisis: Ondo Assembly Majority Leader calls for peace

By Josephine Oguntoyinbo

The lawmaker representing Owo Constituency 1,and the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi has called on youths in the community to shun any act capable of truncating the peace and harmony in the Constituency.

Speaking with The Hope in a telephone interview, the lawmaker sympathised with the families of the victims of the violence, appealed to the people to shealth their swords and embrace peace in the interest of all.

While describing the incidence as an unfortunate one, he affirmed that the ancient town had been experiencing a peaceful atmosphere for a long time.

He equally appealed to all the traditional rulers and other stakeholders to sue for peace and speak in one voice for permanent peaceful co-existence.

“Our youths have been behaving well and everything has been going on well, even we the politicians and our traditional rulers have been doing wonderfully well as well.Stakeholders put the interests of the community first, with that , there is peace, until Monday early morning that we got the news about the ugly incident on the killing of one Fisayo Oladipopo, who happened to be the former youth leader of APC in our local government. He has been a wonderful person, calm, and easygoing person.

“And after the news, some youths reacted, leading to loss of lives, which personally I am not in support of, because I believe that we should not use sword for sword. We should allow peace to reign.People must respect law and order.l pray that the departed souls rest in peace,

“We will still continue to appeal to our youths that there is no need for violence. It is unfortunate that a couple of years ago, there was a massacre in the town and in 2023, we lost the sitting governor from Owo. We thank God for the magnanimity of the present Governor of the State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa that put us into consideration and gave us a Commissioner for Finance, and also the Deputy Governor, therefore ,I do not see any reason for rancour,we should be thankful to God.

“This is the first week of the year, therefore,l will still continue to appeal to our people that we should allow peace to reign, in respect to whatever might have happened”.

He thanked all security operatives for their efforts at putting at bay the ugly incident, calling on them to be vigilant in the area.
