The Chairman of Akoko North-West Local Government Area, Hon. Model Esan Owolabi, has pledged to modernise Okeagbe Market as part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting local commerce.
Owolabi made the pledge during an inspection visit to the market to assess recent structural damages and identify areas requiring urgent attention.
He was accompanied by the council’s Chief Engineers and the Councillor representing Oyin/Oge Ward 3, Hon. Agbaoye.
During the visit, the chairman approved the renovation of the market’s public toilets and the installation of a new industrial borehole to improve hygiene and water supply.
Owolabi said the intervention was in line with his administration’s development agenda aimed at enhancing market facilities and creating a cleaner, more conducive environment for traders and buyers.
He urged market leaders and traders to complement the government’s efforts by maintaining cleanliness within the market and adhering to environmental sanitation regulations.
In her response, the Iyaloja of Okeagbe Market, Mrs. Comfort Ajayi commended the chairman for his prompt intervention and assured him of the traders’ readiness to cooperate with the local government.
She also pledged that traders would continue to remit their taxes and levies regularly to strengthen the council’s internally generated revenue and support ongoing development projects.
