By Victor Akinkuolie, Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the state, effective from December 1, 2024.

The approval followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and leaders of organised labour in the state.

According to the MoU, the new minimum wage will apply to all categories of Ekiti workers, including pensioners.

The wage agreement was signed on behalf of the state government by the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, while leaders of the labour unions in the state signed on behalf of the workers.

Dr Olomojobi explained that Governor Oyebanji approved the template as presented by the committee, demonstrating his commitment to prioritising the welfare and well-being of workers.

Describing Governor Oyebanji as a “worker-friendly governor” who is deeply invested in the welfare of Ekiti workers, the Head of Service expressed gratitude to the labour leaders
