Oyebanji celebrates Justice Adeyeye’s legacy
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has urged the children and family of the late Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, to find solace in his impactful and purposeful life and his significant contributions to the justice system.
The late Justice Adeyeye served as the Chief Judge of the state from October 11, 2021, until his passing on November 4, 2024.
Dignitaries at the Service of Songs held at the Adetiloye Hall, Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday evening included the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye; Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; Acting Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Adekanye Ogunmoye; President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Monisola Abodunde; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Dayo Apata (SAN); former Attorney General, Barrister Wale Fapounda (SAN); members of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, and members of the judiciary, among others.
In his glowing tribute, Governor Oyebanji highlighted Justice Adeyeye’s exemplary service, commitment to justice, and dedication to mentoring younger lawyers. He commended the late jurist for shaping the judiciary and leaving an indelible legacy that would serve as a guiding light for future generations in the legal profession.
The Governor described Justice Adeyeye as a brilliant jurist, mentor, and compassionate leader who positively impacted countless lives. While acknowledging the pain of his loss, the Governor emphasised that his remarkable legacies must be celebrated and preserved.
Governor Oyebanji assured the bereaved family of the state government’s continued support during this difficult time, in recognition of the late Chief Judge’s contributions to the state’s growth.
“After listening to Pastor Oluwatusin’s exhortation, there is nothing to add other than to encourage the family, children, and those of us mourning that God remains God. This is a moment of grief, but one thing I thank God for is the life of our departed Chief Judge. Since he passed, I have not heard anything negative about him, and that is a cause for gratitude. It is also a source of pride for his wife and children, knowing he left behind a strong legacy,” the Governor said.
In their tributes, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; Attorney General, Barrister Dayo Apata; President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Monisola Abodunde; and Acting Chief Judge, Justice Adekanye Ogunmoye, described the late Chief Judge as a towering figure of justice, integrity, and fairness.
They praised his dedication to the growth of the judiciary, describing him as a legal luminary and patriot who devoted his life to justice and fairness. His unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, they added, has left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire both the legal community and the public.
In his homily titled “Before I May Be No More,” Pastor Rotimi Oluwatusin of Christ Apostolic Church, Faith Palace, Ado Ekiti, described the late Chief Judge as a devout Christian whose life exemplified service to God and humanity. He encouraged the congregation to emulate Justice Adeyeye’s virtues and prepare for eternity.
