Oyebanji tasks corps members on nation building, patriotism

By Precious Owolabi, Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has charged corps members deployed to the state to view the service year as a transformative experience that would shape their character, broaden their perspectives, and provide them with a platform to make significant contributions to the progress of the nation.

Oyebanji gave the charge at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/Emure-Ekiti, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members deployed to the state.

The governor, who spoke through the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Gold Adedayo, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of youths in the state, pledging to sustain the cordial working relationship between the state government and the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

He urged the newly deployed corps members to uphold the principles of patriotism, loyalty and selfless service exemplified by the NYSC, noting that these virtues had been instrumental in moulding the minds of countless Nigerian youths.

Oyebanji encouraged the corps members to allow the spirit of unity to guide their actions, fostering understanding and cooperation among the diverse people of the various communities where they would serve and reside during their service year.

While stressing that the theme of the NYSC transcends personal boundaries, the governor noted that it resonates with the collective vision of a united, prosperous, and harmonious Nigeria.

He further urged them to contribute their quota in the fight against illiteracy.

Oyebanji assured that the state government would continue to recognise their potential and dedication, adding that outstanding corps members would be honoured with the prestigious State Honours Award.

Earlier in his address, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Riko Shuaibu, acknowledged the immense contributions of the Oyebanji-led administration towards providing an enabling environment for corps members at the camp.

He noted that the state government had constructed multi-unit conveniences for the corps members, thereby significantly improving hygiene within the camp.

Shuaibu, who disclosed that over 1,500 corps members had been registered at the camp, expressed delight that the orientation exercise had been relatively peaceful, organised, and devoid of any hazards.

He said corps members had demonstrated commendable zeal, maturity, and discipline.

He charged them to surpass the legacies of their predecessors and strive to leave indelible marks in Ekiti State through selflessness and active participation in community development. He also encouraged them to put in their best in all assignments given to them throughout the service year.
