As part of efforts to move sports to higher pedestal, Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has inaugurated 31 Sports Associations.
This was contained in a release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Sports Council, Mrs Funmilayo Moradeyo.
The inauguration was performed by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yemi Lawal on behalf of the governor.
The sports inaugurated are; Athletics; Ayo, Badminton; Baseball; Basketball; Boxing; Chess; Cricket; Cycling; Darts; Golf; Handball; Hockey; Judo; Karate; Kung-Fu; Kickboxing; Para- Powerlifting; Para- Soccer; Para-Swimming; Scrabble; Shooting Sports; Squash; Swimming; Table-Tennis; Taekwondo; Tennis; Volleyball; Weightlifting; Week Chair Basketball and Wrestling.
In his address, the Commissioner observed that it is pertinent to put in place sports associations as their roles in the upcoming sports fiesta and sports development generally cannot be over emphasised.
Lawal charged them to commence work immediately, while some of them were also nominated to serve in various committees set up for the upcoming festival.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Coordinating Director in the Minisry, Mrs Taiwo Oladunjoye commended the Commissioner for the initiative of organising state sports festival, which is the first of its kind in the history of the state.
She urged the association chairmen to rally round him to make the programme a huge success.
