Oyetola seeks support on technical, vocational education

From Fisayo Akinduro, Osogbo

As part of efforts to make teeming youths dependable and self-sufficient, Osun State Governor has sought for the United States support on technical and vocational education.

The Governor, Gboyega Oyetola made the appeal  in Osogbo while receiving the US Consul General, Claire Pierangelo and her team to his office.

Oyetola stressed that the state needed the US support in the area of technical and vocational education to enable youths be self employed.

He noted that the state placed more emphasis on vocational and technical education as conventional education did not give room for skills acquisition.

“The conventional education does not give room for skills acquisition and the job is no longer there.

“But if youths can learn skills, then they will be self employed and that is why we need your support.

“We are looking at the need to focus more on technical and vocational education because we believe that is the only way to go now as the conventional education does not give room for skill acquisition.”

Oyetola who noted that government cannot hire most of the graduates, said it will enable those with technical and vocational skills to stand on their own.
