The Ondo female Flickers have won Gold medal, while their male team settled for Silver medal in the first Oyo Easter Hockey fiesta played at Adamasingba International Stadium, Ibadan.

The female Flickers won the most precious shield after defeating Ogun State 2-0 in the maiden Oyo Easter Hockey fiesta final while their male team lost 1-0 to the host, the Oyo state team in the male finals.

Ondo male Flickers player, Kehinde Agbafor emerged highest goal scorer of the tournament by 4 goals.

Ondo Female Flickers had played unbeaten in the competition that has 236 players and 48 teams in both genders.

Head Coach of the Ondo State Hockey teams, Mark Oloruntoba in a chat with Sporting Hope, commended the female team for their sterling performances at the tournament , saying the ladies did not loose any game since the beginning of the competition till they won the final game against Ogun state 2-0.

Oloruntoba disclosed that he was not happy with the male team for their inability to listen to his instructions in the final.

“I told them not to underrate their opponent in the final ,but they failed to hearken to my advice and they paid for it by 1-0 lost, it will serve as a lesson to them not to underrate any team in future competitions”

The Hockey head coach while thanking the state government for their financial support in participating in the competition also appreciated hockey fans in the state for their solidarity and support at all times.

According to him, “thank God we have done well in this competition, I want to appeal to the State Government to assist us by making fund available for our participation in the next national competition coming up in Ibadan between 16th -20th of April this year.”
