Pastor, other remanded over murder

An Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand a 62-year old pastor and two others; Wasiu Tijani, 30; and Segun. Enikanoselu at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre over the alleged beating of 60-year old traditionalist to death.
The trio were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh, informed the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offense on April 14, 2025, at about 9:00 pm, at Omifon area in Odigbo, Ondo State.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants allegedly conspired together to unlawfully hit the deceased, Tijani on the head with sticks, resulting to his death.
Osifoh said the defendants allegedly beat the deceased to death for placing a calabash of sacrifice in front of his house.
According to Usifoh, the incident occurred after the pastor, who had been complaining about sacrifices being placed in front of his house, caught the deceased in the act.
“The pastor called the two other defendants, and they ran after the deceased and beat him with sticks on his head, which resulted in his death days later.
The offences contravened Sections 342 and 316 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre and requested the court to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Chief Magistrate Akinlolu, in his ruling, remanded the defendants at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP.
The case was adjourned till July 4, 2025, for a report on the legal advice.
