The Chairman of Akwa United Football Club of Uyo , Paul Bassey has said for Nigeria football to move to enviable height ,the quota system should not be part of the criteria for selection.

Bassey, who stated this during an interview with sports Journalists in Akure, the state capital, said he care not if the best could be gotten for the  team from one region ,in as much they are giving us the necessary  results.

He lamented the woeful performance of Nigeria  under 17 and 20 teams at international competitions, saying the football adminstration should embark on souls searching mission.

“We normally do well in age grade competition but now the story is not the same, even the Super Eagles that are doing well we  still have  contractual issue with their coach .”

He said, though the minister for Sport had stepped in to arrest the ugly situation which he said was not too good for the country.

According to him, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)  had apologized to Nigerians, its high time we put that aside and get serious.

The  technical member of NFF, added that Nigeria poor outing was connected to court  litigations which by the grace of God it has been laid to rest .

“I believed they have put that behind them, what we need now is to rejig the team for better performance, failure to stand up when fell down  it is then there is a problem.”

Speaking on the improvement in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) he said there is a great prospect for the league if they can maintain this level of officiating to the end .

He therefore advocated for more discipline among players and officials to improve the quality of the league and attract fans to the pitch.
