PDP, APC trade words over poorly constructed Aduramigba–Ido-Osun road

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it has been vindicated in its repeated criticisms of the administration led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of neglecting the state’s socio-political and economic development.
In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kolawole Olabisi, the APC described the Adeleke administration as “minimalist,” alleging that governance in the state has deteriorated significantly over the past two years.
The controversy centered around the recently tarred Aduramigba–Ido-Osun road in Egbedore Local Government area, which residents claim became impassable just a day after completion due to substandard construction.
The road, which reportedly washed away after a rainfall, has been described by the community as a “death trap.”
It would be recalled that residents of the area staged a protest on Friday, blaming the contractor for executing a poor-quality job and the state government for failing to ensure project integrity.
They claimed that while the road was approved as a stone-based construction, it was built using laterite, a cheaper and less durable material.
In a swift response to the outcry, Governor Adeleke directed the immediate rehabilitation of the affected road.
His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that top officials from the Ministry of Works, Ministry of Rural Development, and the O-RAAMP project had visited the site for an on-the-spot assessment.
“The visiting team conveyed the governor’s directive for a thorough review of the project and assured residents of prompt remedial action,” Rasheed said, adding that the team is engaging with the contractors and project managers to determine the appropriate corrective measures. A report is expected to be submitted to the governor by Monday for further decisions.
Meanwhile, the APC doubled down on its criticism, stating that the poor handling of the Aduramigba road project reflects a broader trend of misgovernance.
“There is hardly a sector in the state that has not suffered under Governor Adeleke’s vindictive and draconian approach,” Olabisi stated. “From his failed attempt to sack the state Chief Judge in disregard of constitutional procedure, to his mishandling of the traditional rulers of Ikirun, Iree, and Igbajo—now reversed by the courts—Governor Adeleke has proven to be ill-prepared for governance.”
Olabisi further claimed that the administration has subjected the people of Osun to avoidable hardship and that developmental projects under Adeleke have often fallen short of acceptable standards.
“We sympathise with the people of Aduramigba who have now had a firsthand experience of the misgovernance plaguing the state,” he added.
The APC is calling for the identity of the contractor responsible for the road project to be made public and for a full investigation into the incident.
The party also emphasised that the road must be properly reconstructed using approved materials to ensure durability and public safety.
“The people of Osun must remain vigilant. Developmental projects must not become death traps due to incompetence
“We’ve previously raised concerns that key contracts were awarded to unqualified contractors, including individuals with no background in construction.”the APC stated.
With next year’s gubernatorial election approaching, the APC said the people of Osun deserve a competent administration that prioritises their welfare and delivers quality infrastructure.
