PDP ’ll keep to 35 percent affirmative for females in politics – Faboyede

The Chairman of Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Clement Faboyede has assured members of National Association of the Women Journalists in the state of the party’s support towards the association’s activities.

He just as he also pledged the readiness of the party to keep to the 35 percent affirmative for Females in politics.

The chairman gave the assurance while playing host to the new executive members of the association led by its chairperson, Mrs. Doris Olumoko during the association’s advocacy visit to the party’s secretariat in Akure.

He said the party would ensure that 35 percent political positions go to females and later improve on it in fulfilment of the demands by the association for adequate representation of females in politics.

According to him. “having only one female lawmaker among 26 at the State House of Assembly and none at the House of Representatives and the Senate were not good enough.

Faboyede, who blamed the women folk for what he described as poor representation in politics said women lack the attitude of supporting themselves politically and therefore implored them to change for better and as well participate actively in politics.

He commended  members of the association for their various advocacy programmes which he said have gone a long way in bringing positive impacts on women and girls in the society.

Earlier, the State chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs. Olumoko had advocated for adequate females representation in political positions with the consideration for a female to be given the Deputy Governor ticket in the party in the next year governorship election.

She bemoaned the poor representation of females at the State and the national level politics, noting that there is no single female legislator among the lawmakers at the National Assembly from the State, except the only one female member at the State House of Assembly.

The chairperson lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment of seven female ministers into his cabinet and made passionate appeal to political parties to give females more chance. into the political setting.
