PDP no longer popular in Osun — NNPP chairman

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Tosin Odeyemi, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke is being misled into believing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains popular among the people of the state.

Odeyemi stated that the mass exodus currently rocking the Osun PDP is unprecedented, adding that the present administration has failed to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to the populace.

He noted that it is too early in the life of a ruling party to be witnessing such large-scale defections but described the development as a good omen for the people, whose freedom from what he termed a “parochial government” is near.

According to him, opposition parties are currently reaping the benefits of the defections from the PDP, adding that even a majority of those still remaining in the party will work against it in the next governorship election.

He said, “I was surprised to see PDP members in the state running helter-skelter for endorsements after the defection of Hon Oluwole Oke, whom they had once described as a ‘paperweight’ politician.

“Many known PDP foot soldiers in Oriade and Obokun Federal Constituency are gradually moving out. Otunba Olujobi Ajibola, one of their major financiers in the area, also resigned recently, to the shock of many.

“The fact remains that any party with the likes of Otunba Olujobi Ajibola in its fold has already secured a formidable grassroots mobiliser.

“I am very sure the arrogance displayed by Osun PDP members will make them ignore these red flags. But I am pleased to inform you that many of them are already in talks with the NNPP. Our party’s doors remain open to people of integrity and purpose who are ready to work with us to restore the lost glory of the state.”
