The Director of Media and Publicity of All Progressive’s Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Steve Otaloro has denounced the move by the National Assembly to impeach the President, Muhammadu Buhari, saying they are only playing politics.
In an interview with The Hope, Otaloro said there has to be a consensus before such a move can see the light of the day.
“As it is, it’s only the PDP that is clamouring for the impeachment and they are going about this, not in the right way but to make media outreach out of it.”
He affirmed that they only sensationalized the whole thing since they don’t have the number to impeach the President. “If they do, they have to build consensus around it and involve all the political parties. So all that we are seeing now is just politics and they are taking it to the extreme.”
While condemning the political gimmicks of the opposition party, saying the timing is wrong, he added that the National Assembly is part of the problem ravaging the peace of the country, advising them, to take insecurity as a priority not politicize it.
He added that the National Assembly budgeted lots of money to the Army to purchase weapons and equipment while neglecting the police who supposed to be preserver of law and order in the society .
” So, they are equally part of the problem this country is facing at the moment. What they ought to do is to support the President and find a way to solve Nigeria’s challenges.
“The president has less than 10 months to go and they feel impeaching him to create another political frenzy is what is best, so the timing is very wrong,” he noted.
He added that there are processes in politics and that the opposition party is not ready as they don’t have the numbers to form the quorum.
He said, “we have an election upcoming and what they are trying to do now is to paint the pictures that APC government is not doing anything, and they will fail with such process”.
