Peace has finally returned to the Ondo State House of Assembly as aggrieved members trickled in on Friday for legislative duties.

The lawmakers who chatted animatedly with one another told The Hope that they were in the assembly due to an invitation by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Assembly.

A prominent member of the Assembly, Mr. Olugbenga Araoyinbo who also confirmed the invitation said they were ready to resume their legislative duties.

In a related development, the awaited Kia Optima sport utility vehicles of the lawmakers were said to have arrived the government house for onward presentation to them by the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Confirming the arrival of the SUVs to The Hope yesterday, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Bamidele Oleyelogun, said members of the Assembly will be presented with their vehicles this week by the governor.

Oleyelogun also disclosed that the much expected constituency projects for the lawmakers will soon be approved by the governor.

According to him, members of the Assembly would have taken delivery of the cars if not for the delay of the remaining one which was delivered last weekend.

He said all was set for the presentation of the vehicles to the members for the use of all the 26 lawmakers.

Oleyelogun added that the vehicles will also go a long way in assisting the lawmakers in the discharge of their legislative functions and improve their efficiency and effectiveness.

Majority of the aggrieved lawmakers who had earlier abandoned the Assembly in the wake of the crisis arising from the purported change of leadership have returned to the parliament to continue their normal legislative activities.

The lawmakers who returned to the Assembly last week for plenary sitting was later adjourned due to other legislative activities at the hallowed chambers.

Araoyinbo noted that they were ready and prepared to perform their statutory functions as lawmakers representing their various constituencies.

“We were invited for plenary sitting this morning and that is why we came to perform our legislative duty. But we were later told that the plenary sitting would not hold again. We are ready to do our work any time any day”.

The plenary sitting slated for last week Thursday could not hold because of a public hearing held at the hallowed chambers.

Though, members of the House do not usually hold plenary sitting on Fridays, some of the aggrieved lawmakers were also seen at the Assembly complex, which is an indication that they are ready to resume their legislative activities.
