Phone theft lands man in court

A 38-year old man, Temitope Ogunrinde, has been arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, for allegedly stealing two phones.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the defendant stole an iPhone 7, valued at N200,000, from one Oso Samuel at about 03:00 a.m. on January 6, in the Ado community area, within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District. 

Oriyomi further stated that at around 4:00 a.m. on the same day and in the same location, Temitope stole an iPhone 12 Pro, valued at N480,000, from one Bakare Simbiat.

The prosecutor noted that the offence, as stipulated under Section 302 of the Ekiti State Law of Nigeria, 2021, is punishable by law.

Defence counsel, Barrister O. G. Abiola, requested bail for his client, assuring the court that he would not abscond.

After considering the arguments from both the prosecutor and defence counsel, Chief Magistrate Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to February 6, for further hearing.
