Ondo state farmers have declared their readiness for farming season as they appealed to government for agro chemicals subsidy.
The State Chairman of All Farmers Association (AFAN) and President of Farmers Congress , Mr Abayomi Monilari, stated this in a chat with The Hope at the weekend.
His words: “We have prepared because seriously, you know if care is not taken, there may likely be food shortage. We want to make sure that it is prevented in Ondo state and that is why we are doing everything possible,” he said.
He noted that there are many factors that may cause crisis as he pointed to labour, which he said they have been able to address.
He noted that labour cost is very expensive, but that farmers have been encouraged to form themselves into clusters and work together from one farm land to the other.
He also urged farmers not to go beyond planting on few hectares of land which they can conveniently handle, instead of going into massive one.
Monilari, who said farmers need money to work effectively and efficiently, urged government to meet with stakeholders, adding that agrochemicals should be subsidized.
Also, Chairman of the Ondo state Agricultural Commodities Association OSACA, Mr Gbenga Obaweya, solicited subsidy of between 30 to 50 percent for agro chemicals for easy accessibility.
