Police apprehend Ekiti traditional ruler’s suspected killer

Men of Ekiti State Police Command have arrested the suspected killer of the traditional ruler of Odo Oro Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of the State, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin.

The police had launched a manhunt for the man, said to be mentally challenged who fled the community after stabbing the monarch to death with a knife on Monday.

The monarch was killed shortly after chairing a meeting he held with chiefs of the community where matters of community development were said to have been discussed.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, in a telephone chat with newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday said the suspect has been apprehended.

Ikechukwu who gave the name of the suspect as Omoniyi Ademola Stephen said he was arrested at about 4.30 pm on Monday around Ajao Market in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

According to the police spokesman, “the suspect has been arrested and he was brought in under investigation.

“He confessed to the act and our investigation continues. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.”

The police spokesman assured that they will be professional in their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
