Police arraign 4 over attack on NANS members

Four men suspected to be involved in the attack on members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS) have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State.
Recall that The Hope Metro reported that some NANS members were attacked at Ogbese, Ondo State, while travelling to Abuja for their annual convention.
The suspects: Oluwafemi Amusa,38; Monday Nwakego, 40; Jacob Temilehin, 35; and Nurudeem Adekunle 23, were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on assault occasioning harm, grievous harm, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The police prosecutor, Josephine Awana, told the court that the accused and others at large committed the alleged offence on February 23 at about 10:20a.m. at Ogbese via Akure, on the Akure North Local Government area
She said the defendants attacked the following people: Oluwarotimi Tobiloba, Fadiran Abiola Victor, John Tosin, Shane Aigbodian and Ojo Oluwaseun with sticks, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons and inflicted injuries on their bodies.
Awana alleged that during the attack, the defendants caused grievous harm on the left hand of one Shane Aigbodian.
According to her, the defendants damaged the following items: an iPhone X handset valued at N250,000.00, an iPhone 12 pro max handset valued at N750,000.00, four iPhone 15 Pro Max valued at N6,000,000.00, two iWatch
series 9 valued at N800,000.00, iPhone XR handset valued at N300,000.00, Samsung Fold 4 handset valued at N2,150,000.00, Gold necklace valued at N2,236,000.00, CNG Bus Glass valued at N500,000.00, all items valued at N13,936,000.00, properties of the victims.
The prosecutor further alleged the defendants of conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace in the community.
The offences, she said, contravened Sections 516(A), 338 (1) (2), 451, 335 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 17 for further hearing.
