The police in Ekiti State have arrested a driver, identified as Innocent Ibrahim, for allegedly knocking down an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ekiti Sector Command, while attempting to evade arrest in Otun-Ekiti.

In a statement signed by SRC Tajudeen Balogun, on behalf of the Ekiti Sector Commander, Sanya Adeoye, it was revealed that the driver, a staff member of JOMAV & Property Nigeria Ltd, had recklessly and dangerously manoeuvred his vehicle toward one of the corps’ officials, Road Marshal Assistant I, Vincent Otitoju, in an attempt to evade arrest by corps marshals during a patrol on October 23, 2025, in Otun-Ekiti.

The statement further disclosed that the FRSC officer sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Otun-Ekiti for first aid before being referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, for proper medical care.

According to the statement, the suspect, who was later apprehended and handed over to the police, was arraigned before the Otun Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The police prosecutor presented the case before Magistrate M. Ayedesun.

After the hearing, the defendant pleaded not guilty, and his counsel applied for bail, which was granted by the Magistrate’s.

The case was subsequently adjourned to December 4, 2025.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the arraignment, the Ekiti Sector Commander issued a stern warning to reckless drivers, stating that henceforth, the corps would no longer treat cases involving the knocking down of its officials with kid gloves.
