The police in Ekiti State on Thursday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Isah, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing motorcycle.
The defendant, a resident of Ilasha-Ekiti in Ekiti East local government area the state is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The police prosecutor, Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 12, 2023, at about 10:30 a.m at Itake farm in Ilasa-Ekiti.
Leramo alleged that the defendant stole one Bajaj motorcycle with number plate MUE 934 GB, valued at N450,000, belonging to one Fasegan Olumide.
He said the offence contravenes Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to grant him short adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses for proper prosecution.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him, while his Counsel, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety which he said must be relative within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case till March 7, 2023 for hearing.
