Police arraign proprietress for fraud, impersonation

A 43-year-old woman Titilayo Azeez, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud and impersonation.
Azeez, a school proprietress in Ado-Ekiti and resident of Afao-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun in Ekiti state.
The prosecutor, Insp.Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.2 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant defrauded members of the public and falsely represented herself as a staff of Ministry of Women Affair and Social Development attached to Erelu Adebayo Children Foundation Home, Iyin-Ekiti.
Okunade also alleged that the defendant under the pretense of being a staff of the Ministry obtained N3, 460 from an innocent member of the public.
He noted that the offences contravened Section 484 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olanike Adegoke, in her ruling granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Adegoke adjourned the case until Sept. 21 for hearing.
