Police arraign teenager, mother for stealing

A 13-year-old boy, Adekunle Adejayan and his 48-year-old mother, Toyin Adejayan, have been arraigned before the Akure Family Magistrate Court, for allegedly stealing and receiving the sum of N200,000.
The defendants are facing two counts of stealing and receiving stolen property.
The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso informed the court that they committed the offences on September 14,2023 at Itaja road, Idanre in Ondo State.
Olowofeso alleged that the first defendant stole the sum of N200,000 from one Mary Olarenwaju, who is their neighbour.
The prosecutor also said Toyin Adejayan received the money from her son, knowing that it was stolen.
The prosecutor said the police have recovered the sum of N70,000 from the woman.
The offences contravene Sections 390 (9), 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. 1 of Ondo State, 2006.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate F.A Aduroja, ordered the remand of the first defendant in the Ondo State Juvenile home, Akure, while his mother should be returned to the police station for further investigation.
She adjourned the case till October 10, 2023, for the mention
