A 40-year-old woman, Funmilayo Aduloju, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.
The defendant, a food vendor and resident of Ado-Ekiti, was charged with one count of assault by men of the Ekiti State Police Command.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, the defendant committed the offence on July 12 at about 8:30 p.m at Ekute Area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted one Adetutu Abegunde, by biting her left eye during a fight which ensued between them.
Aduloju was said to have caused Abegunde serious injury.
Okunade said the offence contravened Section 185 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her, while her counsel, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant her bail, promising she would stand trial.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till August 3, for further hearing.
