Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three persons in connection with the attack on some political stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Efon-Alaye, headquarters of Efon local government area of the state at the weekend.
During the attack, goods and property estimated at several thousands of naira were destroyed by the suspected thugs in the area.
The attack which occurred during a meeting of the APC in the area, lasted for about several hours.
A chieftain of the ruling APC in the area, Chief Bode Olayinka, and three other members of the party reportedly sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
According to a source in the hilltop community, the attack was led by a notable political thug loyal to a former member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, who is also the leader of the APC in the community.
The source said the meeting was convened by the leadership of the APC to deliberate on the success of the party during the forthcoming local government election in the state.
Narrating his ordeal within the premises of the state police command in Ado-Ekiti, one of the victims of the attack, Mr. Olaitan Olayinka, said the attackers who were about 20 suddenly emerged from the street, armed with dangerous weapons and attacked them.
Another victim of the attack and stalwart of APC in the area, Mr Bode Olayinka, said he had escaped from the scene of the attack and was seated in front of his house with other members of his family at about 8:pm on the fateful day, when the attackers emerged again and asked them to vacate the place.
He said they destroyed the whole house, including his property estimated at several thousands of naira.
“It took the intervention of the military men at the Efon/Itaure boundary military post who later arrested two of the suspected thugs and handed them over to the police for proper prosecution.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the receipt of the alleged attack.
He said, “The command, upon receiving the information, swung into action and investigated the incident. Three suspects have been arrested over the matter and they will be charged to court as soon as investigations is completed on the matter.”
