Police in Ondo town, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday arrested three persons suspected to be members of secret cults.
During the arrest, the police recovered ammunition from the suspects, who are believed to have been terrorizing the area for some time.
The suspects, who belong to different cult groups, were apprehended by the anti-crime unit attached to the Enuowa Divisional Police Station, Ondo town.
A source close to the police in the area said the suspects were arrested during a routine patrol conducted by the police to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the town.
The police stated that the suspects, who are currently being detained at the anti-cultism unit of the Ondo State Police Command, are undergoing investigations.
It will be recalled that members of two rival cult groups recently engaged in a bloody clash, resulting in the deaths of two persons, while several other suspected cult members sustained injuries.
Speaking on the matter, a senior police officer at the Enuowa Divisional Police Station, who wished to remain anonymous, said the arrest of the suspects is part of the police’s efforts to combat cult-related activities in the area.
