Police arrest 3 with N129.5bn fake currencies

Three suspects were on Tuesday arrested by the police with counterfeit currencies valued at N129.5 billion.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Salman Garba Dogo, disclosed the arrest during a press briefing at the command’s Bompai headquarters. Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, Dogo detailed the recovery of counterfeit currencies in various denominations, including $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.

According to him: “We arrested three suspects and recovered counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of N129.5 billion, consisting of $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000. Earlier, we had apprehended other suspects involved in similar activities. We will not condone such criminality.”

In a separate incident, the CP confirmed the deaths of two individuals following a rivalry clash in the Rimi, Kofar Mata, and Yakasai areas. The violence, which erupted after a football match, led to reprisal attacks.

“Our officers conducted an on-the-spot assessment and have been deployed to restore normalcy in the affected areas,” Dogo said. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators behind the clash.

Additionally, the command reported the arrest of 62 suspects linked to various major crimes over a two-week period.

Several recoveries were made, showcasing the continued efforts of the police in combating crime across Kano State.
