Police arrest Hotel guard, 8 others over alleged robbery, murder in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command at the weekend confirmed the arrest of a security guard attached to one popular Hotel in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, over alleged robbery, murder and illegal possession of firearms.
Similarly, the police also confirmed that it has arrested over eight persons in connection with the case of robbery in Oshodi community in the outskirt of Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, who gave the name of the security guard as Peter Naide, said he harboured armed robbers in the hotel and kept guns and weapons for them.
The suspected security guard was also alleged to have been keeping light weapons and ammunition, allegedly used by the robbers inside a well within the hotel premises in Ado-Ekiti, before he was nabbed by the police.
Abutu explained that on the fateful day, members of the public was said to have contacted the police and informed that a gang of armed robbers numbering about eight allegedly stormed Oshodi community in Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
They were armed with guns and other sophisticated weapons, while they attacked and robbed the residents of their belongings.
Abutu explained that upon receipt of the information, the police swung into action and arrested a 32-year-old man, Poyi Nambel, at the scene with one AK47 rifle loaded with ammunition.
He added that the suspect who later led the police to the hotel where two of their gang members Pampyal Yohana, 34 and Moses John, 40, were arrested.
The spokesperson of the command added that the suspects equally led the operatives to another hotel, where two locally made Barreta pistols with one magazine loaded with four rounds of live ammunition were recovered inside a well within the premises.
He disclosed that one of the gang members, David Dashe, who escaped to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, was trailed amd arrested by the police.
Other suspects arrested by the police, were identified asJoshua Sunday, Benjamin Dashe, Seina Luka and Seidu Mamap.
The suspects who are currently detained at the command headquarters Ado-Ekiti, are still helping the police.
According to the PPRO, they have confessed to be responsible for the robbery of innocent citizens within Ado and Ikere-Ekiti, particularly the murder of one Blessing Adewumi, a trader in Ado-Ekiti among others.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include; two AK47 rifles, eleven 7.62mm live ammunition, four 9mm live ammunition, two suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycles and two locally made Barreta pistols among others.
He said efforts are ongoing to arraign the suspects in court as soon as investigations are completed on the matter.
