Police arrest housemaid over robbery, attempt to kidnap boss

Ekiti State Police command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old housemaid, Precious Adunola, over alleged conspiracy, armed robbery and attempt to kidnap her 87-year-old principal in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osin local government area of Ekiti State.

The police also confirmed the arrest of two persons alongside the maid, for alleged conspiracy to rob the victim, and dispossessed her of huge amount of money, while they threatened to kill her.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, on the fateful day, Shedrack Akpos and Lucky Akpos stormed the resident of the female octogenarian at Ifaki-Ekiti, in the middle of the night, armed with gun to rob her.

He explained that the suspects had successfully collected the sum of one hundred and forty-seven thousand naira (N147,000) from the victim and later forced her to withdraw the sum of N3million from her bank account and gave it to the housemaid for onward transfer to them.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects equally continued to threaten to kidnap the old woman and kill her, if she failed to withdraw the money and send to them as demanded.

He explained that the police, upon the receipt of the complaint, sent signal to the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) attached to the command, who swung into action and arrested the suspects in their hideout, and later arrested the 22-year-old housemaid.

The PPRO disclosed further that during interrogations, the two suspects who are currently in the custody of the police have confessed to the commission of the crime and said they were invited by the maid to the house of the old woman to come and rob her.

He disclosed that the suspects would soon be arraigned in a competent court of jurisdiction as soon as investigations are completed on the matter.

In a interview with the housemaid, Precious Adunola, described herself as a victim of circumstances. She denied the allegation of conspiracy with other suspects to rob her principal.

She explained that she was born and brought up in Efon-Alaye, in Efon local government area of Ekiti State and brought to the old woman by her senior sister to serve as a housemaid immediately she finished from the Secondary School, so that she can get money to further her education.

She explained that on the fateful day, the suspected robbers came to rob the old women, she was also robbed and disposed of her phone and other valuables.
