Ekiti State Police Command said it has arrested one Sunday Ameh for allegedly faking his kidnap and demanding huge amount of money from his employer.
The police also confirmed the arrest of three other persons in Ikere-Ekiti for allegedly conniving with Ameh on the purported kidnapping.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu, on the fateful day, the command received a complaint from one Taiwo Omoniyi, a resident of Kajola street, Ikere-Ekiti, that one Sunday Ameh, who was working in his site at Ikere-Ekiti was kidnapped by some hoodlums at gun point.
The complainant further narrated that the kidnappers were demanding for five million naira ransom for the victim to regain his freedom.
The command image maker added that upon the receipt of the information, a team of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) swung into action and arrested the purported victim in his hideout at Ikere-Ekiti.
He added that upon investigation, the arrested suspect to conspired with one Sunday Abah, Adejoh Friday and Simeon Ojodomo to stage his kidnapping.
Abutu further disclosed that concerted efforts of the operatives led to the arrest of the three suspects mentioned above, saying, “they have all confessed to the commission of the crime.”
He noted that during investigation, the suspects who were indigenes of Kogi State admitted conspiracy to stage managed the purported kidnapping.
He disclosed that the suspects, who are currently cooling their feets at the command headquarters along Iyin road Ado-Ekiti, would soon be arraigned in court for proper prosecution.
