Police arrest OPC member for killing Akure Prince

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a member of Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), who allegedly beat to death, one Prince Adesoji Adesida, at the weekend.

The suspect, simply identified as Rafiu Akinwale, was said to have pushed the deceased who brokered peace, while he was beating his girlfriend during an event held at the Dome Event centre, along Igbatoro road, Akure, last Friday.

Confirming the incident to Hope Metro, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya said the suspect had been arrested and investigation had commenced on the case.

Hope Metro gathered that Akinwale, who also came to the event with his girlfriend, alleged her of exchanging mobile contact with another man, and he started beating her.

It was  learnt that the deceased attempted preventing Akinwale from beating his girlfriend, which did not go down well with him(Akinwale), and out of anger, he reportedly pushed him on the floor.

An eyewitness told newsmen that as Akinwale pushed the victim he hit his head on the wall and fell. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.

A source, who does not want to be mentioned, said, “As the two lovers were fighting, Prince (deceased) went there to stop Akinwale from beating up a woman. But out of anger, Akinwale pushed the deceased and he fell on the ground and lost consciousness

He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

The incident was later reported at Ala police station which led to the manhunt of the suspect, who was eventually tracked down.
