Police arrest serial motorcycle snatchers in Owo

Police detectives from ‘B’ Division in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State have arrested a six-man gang who specialise in snatching  motorcycles from their rightful owners at gunpoints.

The suspect whose identities were given as Sola Tosin, Lucky Lamidi, Ojo Are, Kayode Taofeek Abiodun Jamiu and Abudu Oguleye were nabbed by Anti-Robbery detectives attached to ‘B’ Division in Owo, who acted on information.

The Hope Metro learnt that the suspect  robbed one Shaibu Success of Rainbow junction in Owo of his Motorcycle popularly called “Okada” and also snatched another motorcycle from one Akinjogunla Dare at different locations in Owo.

Police sources said the suspects normally target their victims  early in the morning and in the evening to carry out their dastardly act, while armed with dangerous weapons such as guns and cutlasses which they use in inflicting injuries on their victims who struggled with them.

The source said upon interrogation, the suspects made confessional statements and mentioned one man identified as Awo,  whose real names were unknown as the receiver of the stolen motorcycles in Akure, the state capital.

The police boss who also confirmed their arrest, said the suspects had  been responsible for several  snatchings of motorcycles in Owo, Ose and Akure respectively.

He commended the police in ‘B’ division at Owo for being proactive in arresting the criminals,   and said that they would appear in court for prosecution.

 In a similar development, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Adie Undie, also confirmed the arrest of one Friday Udon, who was arrested for alleged possession of a stolen motorbike said to belong to one Mrs Bola Oripeloye Investigation revealed,  that he gave the said motorcycle to one Fumilayo Benjamin of ijoka area in Akure on hire purchase.

Items recovered from the suspects include; Toyota Corolla, Plasma TV, gold wristwatch, four handsets among other valuables said to belong to the victim.
