Police arrests 3 robbery suspects

Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team of the Nigeria Police, Ondo State Command (SWAT), have apprehended three suspected armed robbers along Tipper Garage area of Akure in Akure South Local Government area of the state.
Items recovered from the suspects included; one locally made pistol, three live cartridges and a blue TVS Motorcycle.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, made this known during a press briefing.
According to report, the team led by SWAT Commander, Owoloye Olasunkanmi, got the information and immediately swung into action which led to their arrest.
According to him, “One 19-year-old Sheu Haruna and two others were seen pushing a blue TVS motorcycle with number plate FGB 089 WL, which was suspected to have been stolen.
It was also gathered that the SWAT boss and his team arrested the trio of 28-year- old Samuel Sunday known as “small”; Ibrahim Bashiru, 36 and 38-year-old Timmy Isola.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to have also robbed a female student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA at Aule area of Akure of her Android phone valued at N150,000.
They were also reported to have robbed two motorcyclists while armed with cut-to-size single barrel gun along Ofosu/Benin Ore expressway sometimes in December, 2023.
In his confession, Sunday Samuel said; “I bought the gun from someone identified as David in Aye.
“We have used it to rob many times. We also used it to rob two machines in Ore and later sold it to someone in Akure.
One of the suspects, who identified himself as Timmy explained that Bashiru told him he needed a phone and he assisted him to get one.
“We used the gun to rob and got 11 mobile phones.
“We went to Aule community behind FUTA for an operation and stole 11 phones and shot sporadically into the air to scare residents away.
According to the report, they will all be charged to court as soon as investigations into the cases are completed.
