Police bust highway robbery syndicate in Benue
By Henry Iyorkase, Makurdi
A syndicate specialising in terrorising passengers and other innocent people on the Makurdi-Lafia-Abuja highway has been apprehended by police operatives in Benue State.
The Hope checks revealed that these criminals had been preying on innocent citizens, including travellers, until nemesis caught up with them.
Acting on a tip-off from a Good Samaritan, the police successfully dismantled the eight-member gang, which included a female accomplice.
The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr Steve Yabanet, expressed dismay over the recent increase in attacks and robberies across the state.
According to the police chief, the gang was arrested a few days ago following their involvement in multiple highway robberies.
While parading the suspects at the state headquarters midweek, Mr Yabanet disclosed items recovered from the gang, including an action pump gun, army camouflage uniforms, dangerous weapons, and various charms.
The Commissioner advised the public to remain vigilant, especially as the festive season approaches, to avoid falling victim to criminal activities.
Mr Yabanet also issued a stern warning that anyone found contravening the law would face severe sanctions, emphasising that no one would be spared from the sledgehammer of justice.
