Police continues investigation on student’s death

The Ondo State Police Command said on Thursday, that investigation is on going in the mysterious death of a SSS3 student of Ijo Mimo High School, Akure, Temitayo Oluwole, who reportedly fell from a mango tree and died.
Police sources authoritatively disclosed to The Hope Metro that the teacher, Mrs. Kura had been interrogated by the police.
The teacher, it was learnt had submitted herself to the police at Oda Divisional Headquarters, where she had been interrogated and made useful statement to the police.
A police source at Oda police station who confirmed the appearance of the female teacher at the station said she has tendered her own statement to admit she actually asked the late head boy to pluck mango for her after a tutorial class last Saturday when the unfortunate incident occurred.
He said her statement revealed a case of negligent act and may be charged as such, adding that the matter would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) at the Police Headquarters along Igbatoro road in Akure for further investigation.
Our correspondent who visited the Homicide section of the SCIID to inquire if the matter has been transferred to the section, met the officer in charge, who said the case was yet to get to his table.
A resident of Ijo Mimo Oluwa High School area, who spoke under the condition of anonymity told The Hope Metro, that anybody could have been a victim of such adding that the teacher cannot be held liable over the death, saying it is normal for the police to investigate the case and establish what went wrong.
Meanwhile, the alleged evil tree had been reportedly cut down, following the demand by students of the school over the unfortunate demise of their school mate.
Some of the students, who spoke to The Hope Metro commended the efforts of the state government through the office of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Femi Agagu, for ensuring that the “evil mango tree is cut down.”
The students who also expressed sadness over the lost of their school mate prayed for God to console his parents and grant the deceased eternal rest, just as they described their head boy as a very intelligent, responsible, gentle and hardworking student that would be missed by all including the teachers and Staff of the school.
