The Nigeria Police Force, on Saturday, confirmed the successful extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as “Killaboi”, from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria over the alleged murder of 21-year-old Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe.
The suspect, who had been on the run since July 2023 following the gruesome killing of Miss Onuwabhagbe at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, was returned to Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025.
His return was the result of coordinated efforts involving the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, and Qatari judicial authorities.
A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and made available to Weekend Hope, disclosed that the extradition followed a petition submitted by the family of the deceased through their legal representatives on 29th September, 2024.
The case was subsequently handed over to INTERPOL NCB, Abuja, for discreet investigation.
According to findings, the suspect murdered the victim, a first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, on 13th July, 2023, before fleeing the country. He later released an online video allegedly confessing to the crime, a move police say was meant to derail investigative efforts.
After he was declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on October 13, 2023, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued.
He was first apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, under the alias “Kanu Princeton Samuel” on October, 20 2023, but managed to escape custody during a prison break on November 26, 2023.
Further intelligence tracked his movements across several regions including West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East. He eventually settled in Doha, Qatar, on January 24, 2025, using the false identity “Toure Abdoulaye” and a forged Guinean passport to gain illegal employment and conceal his presence.
However, through biometric data and international cooperation, INTERPOL NCB, Abuja, in partnership with INTERPOL NCB, Doha, confirmed his identity. He was arrested by Qatari authorities in February, 2025.
Following an official extradition request processed through the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Qatari government approved his repatriation to Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, expressed deep appreciation to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Qatari authorities, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their invaluable roles in ensuring the fugitive’s return.
Egbetokun assured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to the diligent prosecution of the suspect and reiterated the NPF’s dedication to justice and public safety.
