Police foil jungle justice as mob accuses man of poultry theft in Akure

A 35-year-old man was rescued by officers of the Nigeria Police on Sunday morning after a mob in the Igoba Community of Akure North Local Government area, Ondo State, accused him of stealing poultry birds in the early hours of the day.

The suspect was subjected to severe mob justice, with his attackers placing a motor tyre around his neck and parading him through the streets before the police intervened.

Witnesses described the brutal scene, noting the man’s bloodied head and multiple injuries inflicted by the angry crowd.

The mob had prepared to set the suspect ablaze before the police arrived and transported him to the nearest police station.

An eyewitness said the police have promised to extract information about the suspect’s alleged accomplices, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The specific poultries from which the birds were stolen have not yet been identified.
