By Bukola Olamona

Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad have intercepted a cache of live ammunition hidden inside a palm oil container and arrested a female gunrunner in connection with the crime.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement obtained by The Hope on Tuesday, said the suspect, 30-year-old Hauwa Sani, was nabbed on December 23, 2024, along the Keffi-Abuja Expressway.

A search of her belongings reportedly led to the discovery of 124 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres concealed in a five-litre palm oil container.

Upon interrogation, Sani allegedly confessed that she was acting on the instructions of one Nasiru of Daura, who directed her to deliver the deadly consignment to Katsina State.

Adejobi further revealed that follow-up investigations have led to more arrests and the recovery of additional arms and ammunition.

In a related development, operatives acting on intelligence intercepted a gang of drug traffickers on February 1, 2025.

The suspects, identified as Alhaji Usman Yahaya, 50; Joseph Matthew, 27; and Solomon Bala, 25, were arrested along the Potiskum axis of Yobe State while allegedly transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other hard drugs.

The consignment was reportedly meant for supply to criminal elements, including bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers terrorising the region.

Barely two days later, on February 3, 2025, security operatives apprehended three more suspects, Yusuf Dantani, 24; Usman Labaran, 32; and Musa Mohammed, 23, who were caught in possession of 10 AK-47 rifles.

They allegedly confessed to being part of an arms-smuggling syndicate and admitted to receiving N3.98 million for their last illicit transaction.
