Benue State Police Command’s Operation Zenda Joint Taskforce has neutralised 12 bandits and recovered a cache of arms in a series of coordinated raids across the state.

According to a statement made available to Weekend Hope, the operation took place on 19 March 2025 at about 2 AM, following intelligence reports on a criminal hideout in Agwabi, Tombo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area.

While advancing towards the location, police operatives came under heavy gunfire in an ambush by armed bandits. A fierce gun battle ensued, with the security team gaining the upper hand through superior firepower.

By the end of the confrontation, 12 bandits had been killed, while others managed to flee with injuries.

However, a member of the police team, Inspector Terfa Anyiatse, sustained a fatal gunshot wound and later succumbed to his injuries.

Subsequent raids in Daudu and Makurdi resulted in the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, seven locally-made pistols, and the arrest of five suspected armed robbers alongside 32 suspected cultists.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the officers for their bravery and dedication to public safety.

He also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased officer, describing his passing as a significant loss to the Force.

The police reiterated their commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to security agencies.
