Police launch manhunt for killers of sexagenarian

The police in Ikare Akoko are on the trail of the killers of the 70-year-old woman, who was axed to death in Ugbe Akoko, in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area. of Ondo State.

The lifeless body of the 70-year-old, Bosede Yakubu, popularly called ‘Mama Olobi’ in the area was found in her room at Ugbe Akoko in the early hours of Saturday.

According to a police source in Ikare, the police has commenced investigation into the incident, promising not to leave any stone unturned to apprehend those behind the act.

The police source disclosed that it was the children of the late 70-year-old woman that reported the case at the station.

The aged woman was reportedly axed to death, while the axe was left stuck to her head by the perpetrators of the evil act. But no part of her body was removed.

The daughter of the deceased, Silifat Arogundade, who lives at Cathedral area in Okeruwa, in Ikare Akoko, said she received a call in the early hours of Saturday that her mother was dead.

“My mother who was not sick. I was shocked to see her in the pool of her own blood this morning. Her head was severely cut with an axe. The perpetrators left the axe on her head,” Silifat lamented.

One of the deceased’s grandson, who identified himself as Ade and living in the same house with her alongside other tenants, explained that nobody knew the exact hour the incident occurred.

He said she still cooked rice for him earlier on Friday evening.

His words, ” I asked her to go with me to a vigil, but when she would not bulge, we both went to our different rooms to sleep.

”But on getting there the following day to greet her as usual, I only discovered her in a pool of her own blood with the axe stuck in her head in her room. ”

However, he could not say exactly how the assailants had access to the room.

When our correspondent visited the house, which is very close to a very popular church in the area, the place has been deserted.

But neighbours of the deceased who disclosed that she was an indigene of Ikare Akoko, said she was an hardworking woman, easy going and generous.

It will be recalled that barely a year ago, a 65-year-old woman, identified as Medinatu Ala, was clubbed to death right in her room with her body parts removed in Ikare-Akoko, while another woman, one Mrs Joel, was also killed at Arigidi Akoko, while her breasts were removed.
