The Homicide Detectives of the Ondo State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), have arrested the mother of a 4-year-old girl Testimony Babalola, who was reportedly beaten to death by her father in Akure last weekend.
The couple simply identified as Mr and Mrs Felix Babalola had been on the run shortly after the little girl was confirmed dead at the Ondo State Teaching Hospital in Akure, where her mother, Mrs Babalola had rushed her for medical help.
Police sources told The Hope Metro that, Mrs Babalola (suspect), was nabbed at a hideout in Ikare, her home town by police detectives who were on her trail, while her husband, Mr Felix Babalola was understood to have absconded when police stormed their hideout in Ikare.
The Hope Metro learnt that shortly after she was nabbed, she was whisked away to Akure where she is currently being detained at the SCIID of the state police command headquarters for further investigation.
The police spokesman, Mr Femi Joesph, a Superintendent of Police (SP) confirmed the development.
“I can confirm to you that we have arrested the woman who eloped with her 4-year-old daughter after she was confirmed dead in Akure Teaching hospital last week. We got her yesterday and she is in our Custody now Investigation is already ongoing.
“We are still trying to arrest her husband who according to reports, allegedly that beat up his daughter to a state of coma before she was rushed to the hospital by her mother.
“Both couples are suspects in this case. And we have vowed to get to the root of the matter and would ensure that all those that have hands in the torture of the deceased little girl are brought to justice,” Joseph said.
Joseph however, assured that after the police conclude their investigation, anybody found culpable would be meant to face the full wrath of the law.
It would be recalled that the deceased, Testimony Babalola was reportedly tortured to death on the allegation that she was possessed by evil spirits, a revelation that was understood to have been orchestrated by a white garment church located at Oba Adesida road in Akure, the state capital.
After the little Testimony became unconscious as a result of the torture, her mother reportedly rushed her to the hospital where she was later confirmed dead, after which the mother escaped with her corpse and fled to an unknown destination .
Reports indicated that the suspects couple were earlier sighted at their home town in Ikare and were arrested by the police, but some youths prevented the police from apprehending them.
Findings revealed that it took a timely intervention of some community leaders and traditional rulers in the town to bring the situation under control as the youths were ready to engage the police.
