Police nab run away husband who macheted wife

By  Fatimoh Muraina.

After being on the run for over 102 days, the Police in Ondo State Command yesterday finally caught up with Shuaib Kalejaye aka Aja, the runaway husband who macheted his wife for attempting to quit their 10-year-old union.

The Hope Metro gathered that Kalejaye was arrested by eagle eyed detectives yesterday at Epe in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

He was said to be hibernating at a hideout in the riverrine community, where the Police acting on a tip-off fished him out.

President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Okitipupa branch, Mrs Kemi Akinnusi, disclosed this to The Hope Metro in a telephone chat yesterday.

Akinnusi said a team of police crew had earlier left from Okitipupa to Lagos State where Kalejaye was arrested in Epe.

Akinnusi said Barr. Oluyemi Bajowa, the Regent of Ayeka, where the crime was committed volunteered her vehicle to effect  the arrest.

According to her, the regent said the culprit and the police officers were on their way to Ondo State from Lagos.

She expressed joy and satisfaction as she applauded the Police for what she described as, ‘a job well done.’

Speaking on the development, Olabisi’s elder brother, Mr Olatunde Adeola confirmed the arrest, saying that the police team led by the Investigative Police Officer, (IPO) left Okitipupa to effect the arrest.

He said a police source confirmed that the culprit Kalejaye, was with them in the vehicle and that they were on their way to Okitipupa.

Olatunde who said he had spent much money to ensure that the arrest was made, called on the Police to ensure that justice was done.

A non governmental organization, Girls to Women Research and Development Centre, had on Monday written a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, demanding for justice and why the Police had not been able to apprehend the culprit.

The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Mrs Olamide Falana, said her organisation was interested in the matter seeking for justice for Olabisi.

She said she had met with the NURTW state chairman, Idajo, who said the culprit was not his member, but a member of the RTEAN.

As at press time,  the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP TEE-Leo Ikoro said he had not been briefed
