Operatives of the Anti-Riot squad attached to Okesa Area Command of Ekiti State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man, while attempting to defraud a civil servant in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State.
The suspect, identified as Kolade Oloniluyi, was apprehended at the spot of an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) installed in one of the new generation banks located at Irona area of the town.
He was said to have charmed the 53-year-old civil servant before attempting to defraud her huge amount of money.
The 53-year-old civil servant whose name was given as Oluwajumoke Adelusi until the incident, was working as a Director in Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
On the fateful day, she had lured the suspected fraudster to the scene to withdraw certain amount of money.
The victim was said to have raised an alarm at the spot of the ATM immediately she discovered that the suspect had brought out some items from his pocket suspected to be charm.
Recounting her ordeal to journalists, the 53-year-old woman said she deceived the suspect to the scene immediately she discovered that he is a fraudster.
He explained that the suspect has been monitoring her for several hours before she raised an alarm, during which the suspect was arrested by the residents and later handed over to the police.
She explained that the suspect had earlier high jacked the ATM card from her and started operating it while other customers were looking at them.
“He had earlier contacted me on phone few days ago and promised to have some goods and items to sell for me I never knew that he is a fraudster, until he brought out some charms out of his pocket when he was talking to me.”
During interrogation by the police, the suspect claimed to be working with one Alhaji Yinusa Bakare and had come from Igbimo-Ekiti to Ado-Ekiti on the fateful day to make some transactions.
He described the victim as one of his online customers, but denied any act of fraud in the transaction between them.
When contacted, a senior police officer at the Okeisa Police area command, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and explained that thorough investigation had commenced on the matter.
