Police smash cyber crime syndicates in Makurdi

Determined to get rid of undesirable elements in the society and sanitise Benue State against activities of cybercrime fraudsters, the Narcotics Department of the Police Command has nabbed five suspects in connection with a case of impersonation and obtaining under false pretence.
The police identified the five suspects as Kwaghaondo John,’m’, 21; Sunday Dominic ‘m’ 20; Uaan Aondowase Michael ‘m’ 21; Isaac Akpagher, ‘m’ aged18, as well as Suleiman Lawal ‘m’ 20 years.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent Catherine Anene, disclosed this in a statement made available to The Hope Metro in Makurdi.
She said,” The discoveries were unveiled through intelligence gathering following a tip-off by reliable sources when we received the information. And men of the command swung into action and subsequently apprehended the suspects in their hideout.
The PPRO disclosed that the suspects were whisked away at the weekend, while exhibits recovered from them included; three iphones, one small Tecno phone and two other smartphones.
Further findings revealed that they have been engaged in impersonating people and using their identity to dispossess unsuspecting persons of their belongings.
“Investigations carried out revealed that the suspects have previously been engaged in impersonating people and using their identities to defraud unsuspecting members of the general public of their belongings. “
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police command, CP Steve H. Yabanet called on the good people of Benue State to be wary of activities of cyber criminals.
While assuring residents of his commitment to fighting crime, he warned individuals and groups involved in all sorts of cybercrime in the state to desist from such acts or face the consequences of their actions.
SP Anene disclosed that the suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
